Bond Living ("Bond," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Bond mobile application (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service.

By using Bond, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Account Information: Email address, username, phone number, and password when you create an account
  • House Information: House name, address/zip code, and house member details
  • Service Information: Details about shared services and bills you track (utility accounts, subscription services, etc.)
  • Payment Information: When you link a bank account or card for payments, this information is processed by our payment provider, Stripe. We do not store your full bank account or card numbers.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage Data: How you interact with the app, features you use, and actions you take
  • Device Information: Device type, operating system, and unique device identifiers
  • Push Notification Tokens: To send you notifications about bills, payments, and house activity

Financial Information

When you connect a bank account through Stripe Financial Connections, we may access:

  • Account and routing numbers (tokenized for payments)
  • Account balances (to verify sufficient funds before payments)

This information is used solely for processing payments and is handled by Stripe in accordance with their privacy policy.

1.4 Information From Guests (No Account)

If you use Bond without logging in, we collect minimal information:

  • IP address — Used for rate limiting and abuse prevention (same as authenticated users). Stored temporarily.
  • What you can view — Promotions, partners, and partner locations are publicly viewable. No personal information is required to browse.

We do not collect your email, name, or any identifying information when you browse as a guest. To redeem promotions, manage a house, or use account features, you must create an account.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide the Service: Create and manage your account, facilitate house bill splitting, and process payments
  • Process Payments: Charge your payment method for your share of bills and transfer funds
  • Send Notifications: Alert you about due bills, payment confirmations, house activity, and service updates
  • Improve the Service: Analyze usage patterns to improve features and user experience
  • Communicate: Send important updates about the Service, respond to inquiries, and provide customer support
  • Prevent Fraud: Detect and prevent fraudulent transactions and abuse
  • Prevent abuse and rate limiting (guests and users): We use IP address to prevent abuse and enforce rate limits

Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:

Service Providers

  • Stripe: Payment processing and bank account verification
  • Supabase: Database and authentication services
  • Expo: Push notification delivery

Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request, or to protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property.

Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

What Your Housemates Can See

Housemates can see voting activity and house-related information. This includes:

  • Your departure request and its status (pending, approved, rejected)
  • Vote outcomes on departure requests

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:

  • Encryption of data in transit (HTTPS/TLS)
  • Encryption of sensitive data at rest
  • Secure authentication practices
  • Regular security assessments

However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention

  • Active accounts: We retain your data for as long as your account is active.
  • Deleted accounts: When you delete your account:
    • Profile: Your name, email, phone, and other personally identifiable information are removed or anonymized. Your profile may be displayed as “Deleted User [identifier]” in transaction history so housemates can see historical payments.
    • Financial records: We retain anonymized transaction data (bills, charges, payments) as required for legal, tax, dispute resolution, and compliance. This data no longer identifies you personally.
    • Auth: Your login credentials are invalidated and your email is freed for re-registration.
  • Optional deletion reason: If you provide a reason when deleting (e.g., “Why are you leaving?”), we may store it for internal improvement. It is not shared with third parties.
  • Support tickets: Retained for up to 2 years after resolution.
  • Rate limiting data: Temporary; automatically expires.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal information
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Delete: Delete your account through the app's Settings (or by contacting support@usebond.com). If you are in a house, your housemates must approve your departure first. You must settle any unpaid charges before deletion. See our Terms of Service for the full process.
  • Portability: Request your data in a portable format
  • Opt-out: Opt out of certain data processing activities

Children's Privacy

Bond is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 18.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
